19 - Well’s Plantation

19 - Well’s Plantation

A party of British regular troops and Loyalist militia caught up to a party of SC Militia and Continental Cavalry, under the command of Capt. William Bennett, after sunset, surrounding the Wells’ plantation house at Bull Head. A barking dog warned the Americans, so that British Capt. McNeil lost the element of surprise. The British killed one Patriot, wounded several others, and took sixteen good horses with all their equipment. But they didn’t succeed in capturing most of Capt. Bennett’s company.
