15 - Biggin Creek Bridge

16 July 1781 (Church Burned)

15 - Biggin Creek Bridge

Lt. Col. Peter Horry and his men, camping at Biggin Creek Bridge and caught by surprise, were struck by Major Thomas Fraser and his SC Royalists, but quickly rallied and counter-attacked with Col. Edward Lacey’s mounted riflemen, and drove the British back to their lines. This was a delaying action for Lt. Col. Coates, as he then put all his stores into Biggin Church, burned it in the middle of the night, and retreated toward Charlestown.
